Set It Off is an action crime drama. It tells the story four women who are at the bottom in their respective lives, that decide to engage in armed robbery to change their status. However, they quickly find out how dangerous their newfound criminal career is.

This is purely Blaxploitation at its best. A beautifully written story with a very careful fusion of fast paced action and heartfelt drama. The characters are well interpreted by the actresses with their profound performances. Even though the fate of the characters are intertwined, their stories are still told independently so much that you understand who they really are and totally root for them.

The plot is flawlessly fluid, and flows effortlessly as the it thickens with steady progression, so those the arc of our characters. There are times of serious moments and times for some needed comic relief. Both are well appropriated to balance each other to make a good story.

Another beautiful fact of these story is that it has an all female lead cast. The actresses do bring their energies together to make this dynamic project. This is done in a smart and constructive way and does not appear to be gender obsessed or another feminist or race trope, rather an intelligent story told in an interesting perspective.
