The movie tells the story of Leonard Chess, founder of Chess Records and his contributions to the world of Rock n’ Roll. It also tell the stories of the different artistes that signed with his music label. It features real life characters like Muddy Waters, Ethan James, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, Chuck Berry etc.
It is all about the Blues on this one. The story goes so far as to explore the dark side of the fame and fortune that comes along with the music business. The actors did a wonderful job in acting out with raw passion and authenticity and interpreting their roles as best as the could. If you love her music, then you will love her acting even more, because Beyonce, who was also in the movie, gave her all to her character. So much that all you can only see Ethan James not Beyonce.
It has a decent art direction. The pacing was excellent. Though it did not have originality in its storytelling, but that single fault was complemented with the music featured. I love how they used the soundtrack. It was like a voice telling a story in its own way. So if you love biopics, music and Beyonce, I recommend this movie for a cool evening.
