You have seen movies that tell origin stories of superheros, but have you seen movies that tell the origin stories of supervillains. Chronicle is such movie. In this movie, three friends stumbled upon a mysterious rock and develop psionic powers. As they grow in strength, so is their true natures revealed.

The best thing about this movie is the character arc of our protagonist or antagonist, depending on how you see it. It shows his very gradual and steady progression to the dark side. What makes it so magnificent is that it plays with the idea that it is how he has always been and then confuses the audience that life turned him this way. Another beautiful thing is that, you will not notice this descension into villainy till the end of the movie.

Everything about this movie is simple. The plot, the concept, props and set, they are all simple, but still lies this elegance in this simplicity. The characters however is far from simple. That is another reason I love this movie. It is character based. It does not depend on visual spectacle and quick humor. It is dark and grounded and smartly written.

I strongly recommend this movie if you wanna see the other angle of a superhero movie. When watching this flick, you will notice the cinematography, that is art.
