This is a major blockbuster in the streaming world. It was recorded as the most watched movie on its opening weekend. Here I analyze the movie, to see if it actually lives up to its hype or just overrated. Red Notice tells a story of an FBI agent who teams up with a notorious art thief to catch a mysterious one.
Diving into the concept, it is almost an original one. Yes, almost. You see, the filmmakers tried to combine different elements of different genres into this movie. We have the slick, elegant, and glamorous heist element, we have the grounded fast paced action, we also have the globetrotting sequences and the down to earth comedy here. The beauty of it all was that these separate elements were effortlessly blended so well that it was too natural and did not feel forced in any kid of way. That is quite exceptional. Hence the ALMOST original. In as much as it felt different, yet not anything we have not seen before. I could also notice that nothing was really taken seriously here. I could let it slide, given that it was a comedy anyways
The characters were a bit shallow. They had no depth to them, except one that was forcefully created in just one paragraph of conversation. However, I love how they were written to all have a good dynamic and the natural relationship between all the characters. It was just good. Basically viewing the characters individually, it is a bad look, but altogether, just one word, awesome.
The plot is formulaic, typical textbook heist plot, a little bit predictable, but the flow of events was natural and steady. I also love how the comedy was applied, simply effortlessly and natural too. However you can not deny that despite how good you think the plot was, you would not sit through the entire movie if it were not driven by star power. Nothing wrong with that, just saying that the plot on its own is not that great, it is not bad either.
Speaking of star power. The cast was just awesome. Everyone looked like they were all having fun while doing their jobs. The performances were great, the chemistry was incredible. Everyone brought their A- game. It is safe to say that this is pretty much what makes most of the movie good.
If you have seen this movie, you got to love the cinematography. The editing was good, every moment counted, the art direction was good. The entire technicalities in this movie was good. The synergy of all this creates a very entertaining movie. That was the intention, and it was exactly what we the audience got. A very entertaining movie.
Like I said before, the goal was not to win an Oscar, but to give people a brief sense of joy. So most flaws of the movie can be overlooked. The movie did not try to pretend to be what it was not, and it did not intend to change the world or anything. I also love how political correctness was kept out of this movie. Despite its flaws, I totally enjoyed the movie, and if you have not seen it, I recommend you go see the movie.
